Drissi Goes Three for Three With Top 10 Finishes at Detroit Grand Prix

© 2013 Richard Prince PhotographyTomy Drissi  enjoyed a great weekend at Detroit Grand Prix at Belle Isle. The Hollywood California based driver and fan favorite drove the No. 18 "The Heat" Porsche in Saturday's Rolex Series Grand Am race and then pushed the No. 46 "The Internship" Porsche through its paces in both rounds of the Pirelli World Challenge Series on Saturday and Sunday.

Though Tomy and the Muehlner Motorsports America team struggled in Saturday's Rolex race around the island, Tomy and co-driver, Dion von Moltke did a great job fighting back in the No. 18 "The Heat" Porsche, pulling out a 9th place finish in class.

Meanwhile, also on Saturday, Tomy took the No. 46 "The Internship" Porsche to a 6th place finish after qualifying 9th in the highly competitive Pirelli World Challenge GT class.  He raced again on Sunday, finishing 7th. Although Tomy pulled of a masterful start, running as high as third, he was gathered up in an incident involving the Audi and Cadillac on the final restart.

Tomy was extremely pleased with the Porsche and his run.

"I love this track. It's fun to drive and it's a great track for the fans.

"We really got a great start in the second race… I was able to avoid the first turn fiasco and get around most the guys at the front of the grid. I hung onto third for a few laps, but ultimately, the Porsche just didn't have the power to hold off the Audi R8 of Sofronas.

"Given the current rules, he Porsche performed really well out there, and again, I want to thank my friends, Rob and Charles Morgan and Tyler Tadevic. They provided me with one of their Porches and I was able to team up with Jack Baldwin's GT Sport Racing / Gold Crest Motorsports to support the car throughout the weekend."

On the Grand Am portion of the weekend, Tomy teamed up with Muehlner Motorsports of DeLand Florida.

"I got to catch up with a lot of fans and had lots of fun getting our movie based Porsches in front of the Detroit fans. Everyone was excited to see "The Internship" on the World Challenge Porsche and "The Heat" on our Grand Am car."

In "The Heat," an uptight and straight-laced, FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is a methodical investigator with a reputation for excellence--and hyper-arrogance. Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy), one of Boston P.D.'s "finest," is foul-mouthed and has a very short fuse, and uses her gut instinct and street smarts to catch the most elusive criminals. Neither has ever had a partner, or a friend for that matter. When these two wildly incompatible law officers join forces to bring down a ruthless drug lord, they become the last thing anyone expected: buddies. From Paul Feig, the director of "Bridesmaids."

"The Internship" will be opening in theaters June 7th starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.  In the movie, Billy (Vince Vaughn) and Nick (Owen Wilson) are salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital world. Trying to prove they are not obsolete, they defy the odds by talking their way into a coveted internship at Google, along with a battalion of brilliant college students. But, gaining entrance to this utopia is only half the battle. Now they must compete with a group of the nation’s most elite, tech-savvy geniuses to prove that necessity really is the mother of re-invention.

NBC Sports will broadcast The Pirelli World Challenge Series on the Streets of Detroit Sunday, June 16th at 5PM eastern. Note, time and date subject to change.
