Brainerd, MN (July 12, 2020) – Tomy Drissi stormed into Brainerd International Raceway for The Ryan Companies Jed Copham Tribute Weekend and masterfully piloted the Lucas SlickMist adorned Camaro to the top of the All-Star podium. Victory did not come without its challenges.
After starting the Burtin Racing Camaro on the front row, Drissi and Amy Ruman battled for second after the green flag dropped. Drissi regained the position and pulled away from Ruman a few laps before Ernie Francis Jr retired with technical difficulties – putting the 2009 Trans-Am Champion in first with a comfortable lead with more than half the race left.

“I was patient today,” said Drissi. “Burtin Racing gives me a lot of confidence. We would not be as fast without Lucas Oil Slick Mist. It’s great to be P1 at Brainerd. I am sorry that Ernie had the misfortune. It has been 10 years since I was here, and they have done a wonderful job, it looks amazing. It was like Jed (Copham) was riding along with me in the car. I finished second last time I was here, so it is great to be on top!”

“Amy is such a good competitor” Drissi said after the race, ”neither of us were going to give in to each other. You could tell she had a lot of motor coming out of the corners but I finally got her and went for Ernie. I was looking forward to catching up to him but unfortunately he had to pull off. Everything was great, the track was great, the fans were great. Burtin Racing set the car up great and that Lucas SlickMist Camaro has never looked better than it does in the winner’s circle. I can’t thank the all the guys at Lucas and Claudio (Burtin) and the Burtin team enough.”

Coming out of Brainerd, Drissi is currently in second place for the championship and only a handful of points away from the multi-champion Ernie Francis Jr.

Drissi, Lucas SlickMist, Burtin Racing are all heading to Road America on August 6th through 8th for the next round of Trans-Am Presented by Pirelli. You can follow the Lucas SlickMist Camaro and Tomy Drissi live by downloading the Trans Am Presented by Pirelli app in the Apple AppStore or Google Play Store.

Sebring, FL (3 March, 2020) – Tomy Drissi piloted the Lucas Oil’s Lucas Slick Mist Camaro to second place at Sebring International Raceway this weekend during the Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli 2020 season opener. In true Champion fashion, Drissi didn’t let qualifying setbacks stop his determination to put the Burtin Racing Camaro on podium during the inaugural Live Stream race.

Drissi started the Lucas Oil Slick Mist Camaro as it gleamed in the Florida sunshine from the rear of the field, however, Drissi quickly charged up to the front of the pack winning him the Cool Shirt Cool Move Award of the race.

“We had little gremlins in qualifying yesterday and they came up again so we had to baby the car. We had a good battle with Andretti and with Dyson. We want to beat these guys fair and square and not because of mechanicals.” Drissi said from the podium.

Andretti and Dyson wouldn’t be immune to the gremlins that weekend. After a mishap in practice, Dyson and his crew would miss qualifying while they worked on the car only to see the Drissi/Dyson duo quickly work their way up into top positions during the race. Andretti battled his own gremlins during the race as his car fell from second place mid-race.

A full course caution gave Drissi the opportunity needed to challenge Ernie Francis Jr for the lead. “I thought we were going to have a good fight, but Ernie got a good restart and before I could get by him we went back to finish the race under yellow,” Drissi said when asked about the final laps of the race.

“They gave me such a good car,” Drissi said of Burtin Racing. “Those guys worked so hard. They stayed up and fixed that car from the handling to the mechanics.”

Sebring International Raceway is home to the season opener for Trans Am presented by Pirelli Championship race for 2020. The first race at this historic track was on New Year’s Eve of 1950 and was home to the first United States Formula 1 race, the United States Grand Prix. The track is located at the Sebring Regional Airport and has undergone many safety changes over the years, however, it maintains the history and character that makes it one of the greatest North American road racing courses.

Live coverage and replays of Round 1 of the 2020 Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli Championship at Sebring International Raceway is available during the race on the Trans Am Series App available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Sebring, FL (28 February, 2020) – Tomy “The Rockin Moroccan” Drissi and Lucas Oil’s Lucas Slick Mist are primed for the 2020 Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli Championship this weekend at Sebring International Raceway. Success at Sebring is nothing new to Drissi where he kicked off the 2019 season on the front row.

“Sebring is always one of my favorite tracks to be at. Not just because of the incredible fans and history here but Sebring also marks the start of the Trans Am season and we get to see all of the improvements and hard work that we put into the car over the break.” Drissi said off camera.

Success is not without its challenges for the former Trans Am Rookie of the Year and Champion. In 2019 Drissi was forced to take some time off due to injuries, however, he was quick to rebound and finished off the season strong.

“I’m glad to be back and I’m looking forward to a good year. We’ve been able to make a lot of improvements to the car and The Lucas Slick Mist Camaro is going to come out fighting.” Drissi said when asked about the 2020 Season. “I’m proud to be a part of the Lucas Oil family and to represent the Slick Mist product.”

Austin, Texas – October 6, 2019 – Tomy ‘The Rockin’ Moroccan Drissi demonstrates impressive consistency after notching his third consecutive podium finish, his fifth of the 2019 Trans Am season overall, and his third successive top three finish in TA Class racing at Circuit of The Americas. His achievement is all the more impressive given that the Angeleno was forced to sit out three races this season.

It is always a special occasion when Trans Am comes to the state of the art race track that is COTA, now the home of the Formula One United States Grand Prix. It is the only occasion in the calendar when the West Coast Championships and National Championships of Trans Am presented by Pirelli converge. A true festival of muscle car racing at a hugely prestigious venue, it’s one of the highlights of the season.

Tomy’s No. 8 Lucas Oil Slick Mist Chevrolet Camaro has been quick all year, and so it proved once again in Texas where he was the fastest out of the gate in testing, registering a time of 2:11:172 on the third lap of the session to top the timing charts. He improved on that time in second testing, clocking 2:10:976 for P2.

Official practice saw Tomy lower the bar further, to 2:10:282 and in qualifying he recorded 2:10:359 for P4 on the second row of the grid, maintaining his fine record in qualifying.

When the race got underway Saturday lunchtime, Tomy was shunted by Amy Ruman on the first corner sending him spinning. The accidental coming together cost Drissi several places and caused him to drop back to P9, but perhaps surprisingly there was no yellow flag. 2009 Trans Am Champion Drissi was nevertheless able to pick his way through the field to claim fourth spot before Ernie Francis’ bad luck became Tomy’s good fortune as with five laps left the Championship leader was passed by the Lucas Oil Slick Mist pilot, allowing him to claim the third spot on the podium. A time of 2:12:067 on lap 11 was Tomy’s fastest lap of the race.

The 2018 West Coast Champion was as magnanimous and generous as ever in his post race interview, “Good job Burtin Racing and the Slick Mist team.” He said, before adding about the incident at the start, “We got hit right at the first turn, I know Amy didn’t do it on purpose but there was no yellow. I never gave up, I was doing just okay laps. I didn’t want to ruin the tires as we were way too far back to catch the leaders. Then we passed quite a few cars and got up into fourth. We wanted a yellow to go and attack the three guys in front of us but there wasn’t one. I feel sorry for Ernie losing his brakes but congratulations to Adam Andretti winning his first Trans Am race. Go Slick Mist, Lucas Oil!”

Tomy will be looking to continue his fine form as the season reaches its traditional climax at Daytona International Speedway, November 12 to 14.Follow Tomy Drissi online at tomydrissi.com and on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter. @TomyDrissi and keep an eye on our social media for race weekend videos, updates and a look behind the scenes from the race track!

Austin, TX – October 2, 2019 – After scoring his fourth podium finish of the season at Virginia International Raceway earlier in September, the 2018 West Coast Trans Am Champion Tomy ‘The Rockin’ Moroccan’ Drissi is aiming to keep his good run of form going and make it a hat trick of podium finishes at the Formula One Circuit of the Americas this weekend, October 3-5, for Round 10 of the 2019 Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli Championship events.

Tomy, the 2009 Trans Am Champion, finished on the podium in both 2017 and 2018 Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli race events and with the No. 8 Lucas Oil Slick Mist Chevrolet Camaro performing so well at the moment, he has every chance of completing a podium hat trick. Were it not for the calf injury that forced him to sit out three races this season, he would undoubtedly be in the mix for the 2019 Championship over his current position of P7.

Tomy, who is a Hollywood advertising executive when not piloting the 850bhp Camaro, was very much looking forward to returning to a track he knows well and which has been a happy hunting ground for him in recent years, “We had a pretty good race at VIR but I am so looking forward to going to one of the greatest tracks and cities in America, Austin, Texas and COTA. I am excited because the family will be coming to join me and I can’t wait to get out there and get on the track. All we are focused on is the win. I know Burtin Racing has been rubbing on this car since the last race, we will be ready. I can’t wait to meet all the great local Texas fans.”

Opened seven years ago on October 21, 2012, Circuit of the Americas (COTA) is a Grade 1 FIA-specification 3.427-mile motor racing track and the current home of the Formula One United States Grand Prix. The upcoming Trans Am action forms a key part of the 2019 U.S. Vintage National Championships and uniquely it is a weekend when the West Coast Championship and the National Championship share the track.

The fan experience at a Trans Am and SVRA event is like no other motorsport as the paddock area is always open to spectators, thereby offering an up-close level of access to cars and drivers. Attendees can check out the garages and see real vintage race cars getting prepped for the track. Race goers will see why the vintage racing community is one of the most friendly and knowledgeable groups of people in the car world. Additionally, vendors on site offer everything from classic car memorabilia to auto detailing products. Fans can get a bite to eat and enjoy the historic racing backdrop to what always ends up being a fantastic weekend of motorsports.

Few if any of the cars on the grid at COTA are as impressive looking as the No. 8 Lucas Oil Slick Mist Chevrolet Camaro piloted by Tomy Drissi and the stunning Lucas Oil blue, red and white decals are bold and bright. Lucas Oil Slick Mist is a polymer paint gloss intensifier, which can also be used on other surfaces such as glass, chrome and vinyl decals. Car owners can utilize Slick Mist as a traditional wax, quick detail spray or can spray it on the vehicle between rinsing and drying for the easiest polish job ever. It can be sprayed on a wet or dry surface and wiped off for a great shine. Slick Mist outperforms the competition and will leave your finish slicker and shinier than any product on the market, with long lasting protection. You and Slick Mist can give any machine an extreme gloss fast.

Alton, VIRGINIA – September 22, 2019 – Tomy ‘The Rockin’ Moroccan’ Drissi kept up his fine record this season with back-to-back podium finishes since returning from injury. At the Trans Am class 100-mile feature race Saturday afternoon at Virginia International Raceway, Drissi’s smooth drive meant he was able to take full advantage of the troubles of his competitors to improve from P5 on the grid to P3 at the checkered flag. It was Tomy’s fourth podium finish of the 2019 Trans Am presented by Championship season from the six races he has started to date.

The stunning looking No. 8 Lucas Oil Slick Mist Chevrolet Camaro piloted by Tomy Drissi performs as effectively as its appearance suggests, and has been very quick all season. The Burtin Racing team prepared car confirmed its competitiveness in the early testing at VIR and underlined the Angeleno driver’s pace. A time of 1:46:732 in Test session 1 was lowered to 1:46:177 in session 2, making the 2009 Champion the fastest man on the track. Official practice saw Drissi further lower the bar to 1:45:516 before he registered 1:45:029 in qualifying to put him on the third row of the grid.

After the drama of the morning’s TA2 class race, Trans Am Chief Steward Dorsey Schroeder had little to do in Round 9 of the prestigious TA Class, which saw pole sitter Chris Dyson pit early with an electrical problem before Boris Said then held the lead all the way to the line.

After scoring another 25 Championship points, Tomy expressed himself satisfied with the weekend’s events, while his sights remain firmly set on that elusive first win of 2019, “I left a little bit in qualifications out there. Left me with the starting position of fifth. Things were settling in and I was chasing Ave and Francis when out of nowhere Dyson had a problem – he was definitely the fastest car out there and I feel bad for him. Ave was running really good too. Congrats and very happy for Boris and Pancho Weaver to get the win with the new car. I know they have been pushing hard. Good job to the Burtin team and thank you Lucas Oil the Slick Mist car was fast!”

The spectacular Formula One Circuit of The Americas is the next port of call for the Trans Am roadshow before the traditional season climax at Daytona. With Trans Am back on our screens on CBS Sports, it promises to be a high octane end to the season.

Los Angeles, CA. – September 17, 2019 – Virginia International Raceway’s circuit is a favorite autumn race destination for Trans Am and SVRA teams and this year is no exception. Among those absolutely raring to go this weekend is 2009 Trans Am Champion Tomy ‘The Rockin’ Moroccan’ Drissi who returned from an enforced spell on the sidelines in this year’s Trans Am presented by Pirelli Championship TA Class with a fine podium third place finish at Watkins Glen earlier this month.

Drissi finished the race at the Glen snapping at the rear of Championship challenger Chris Dyson and the Angeleno pilot will again expect to be up with the pace at VIR having qualified his Burtin Racing prepared No. 8 Lucas Oil Slick Mist Chevrolet Camaro on the front two rows of the grid in every race he has competed in this year. Despite having missed three rounds in the middle of the season with a calf injury, Drissi has three podium finishes to his name in 2019 and has amassed 119 Championship points for a current standing of seventh out of the 29 Drivers to have competed in the prestigious TA, monstrous 850BHP, category this year.

”I can’t wait to get back in the car,” stated Tomy Drissi. “I thought we had a really good race going at Watkins Glen and it was great to be back on the podium. Looking forward to being at VIR this weekend – there are a lot of fans that show up for this event. This is a roller coaster of a ride at this track for drivers. High speed, high risk – very challenging track, very fast. The ascending esses are nuts, very crazy. I will really be putting the pressure on hard and for good results in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist Camaro. I know Burtin will have a great car for me!”

The Trans Am race at VIR is billed as the Heacock Classic and some of the best vintage and historic sports racing, Formula and Production GT race cars will grace the road course over the weekend. The grids are going to be featuring many of the best-known, and prestigious marques in racing, including: Lotus, Porsche, Shelby, Alfa, Corvette, MG and Jaguar. The American Racing Legends Charity Pro-Am will return, pairing veteran NASCAR drivers with amateur racing partners driving Corvettes, Camaros and Mustangs for a 45-minute race. The Hagerty Show and Shine Car Show will host over one hundred street and performance cars but few if any will outshine the stunning No. 8 Lucas Oil Slick Mist Camaro. The Trans-Am Series and Mazda Miata Heritage Cup will join SVRA at VIR as a part of their nationwide series.

As a further bonus, Trans Am returns to our screens September 15 at 5:00 p.m. ET on the CBS Sports Network.

The action on the track this weekend gets underway with testing on Thursday. Qualifications are scheduled for Friday afternoon at 5:10 p.m. and the 100-mile feature TA race on Saturday, September 21 at 5:15 p.m.

Los Angeles, CA. – September 9, 2019 – Tomy ‘The Rockin’ Moroccan’ Drissi wasted no time at all getting back amongst the leaders on his return to Trans Am competition this weekend as he notched his third podium finish of the season at the legendary Watkins Glen International. In a valiant bid to repeat his Trans Am win at the track in 2018, Drissi finished third after 30 laps racing at the upstate New York circuit, less than half a second behind rival Chris Dyson.

Drissi, the 2009 Trans Am Champion, had been sidelined for several weeks with a calf injury prior to The Glen, but he showed no signs of ring rustiness in practice. The No. 8 Lucas Oil Slick Mist Chevrolet Camaro had the power and pace to match the fabulous livery right from the first practice, with Drissi third fastest with a 1:47:208.

In qualifying on Saturday afternoon, Drissi maintained his excellent record for the season of starting no further back than the second row of the grid, registering a best time of 1:47:050 on the second of his qualifying laps.

The race itself saw Drissi quickly move up to P3, from where the Angeleno pilot kept up relentless pressure on second placed Chris Dyson for the entire race. Drissi crossed the finish line just 0.424 seconds behind the Mustang driver, clocking a fastest lap of 1:47:602 on lap 24.

Speaking after the race, Tomy was quick to thank the team behind his great performance on the track, “Thank you so much to Lucas Oil. The Slick Mist car was really fast this weekend. We were competitive in all the sessions, however, I did make a mistake in qualifying, when I messed up a corner.”

Of the race itself, he added, “I got a good start at the beginning of the race. Although these cars do not have any driving aids we do depend on the little bit of aero – having clean air makes a big difference. I was following Dyson very close nose-to-tail and he didn’t make any mistakes. It was too risky to get a pass by on him. I think it softened me up playing basketball with his son Nick in the morning! He’s a great kid.”

Drissi was magnanimous as he congratulated Ernie Francis on his win, “Congrats to Ernie. He had a great race today. The fans were awesome and the spectator turn out was huge this weekend. We didn’t repeat the win from last year but we are on to the next race now and thanks Burtin Racing – the car was so good! If we had clean air in the race the car would have been a bit faster.”

Trans Am is returning to CBS Sports in the fall. The coverage will highlight events from the season with a focus on the races at Mid Ohio and Road America with a season review episode finale, “I wish this race would have been televised – great battles today!”

Trans Am returns to our screens September 15th at 5:00 p.m. on the CBS Sports Network. Next up on the track for Drissi and Trans Am is a trip to the Virginia International Raceway September 20 to 22. After such a fine comeback, we can expect another high performance drive from Tomy.

Los Angeles, CA – September 4, 2019 – Having been sidelined for the past month with a calf injury, Tomy ‘The Rockin’ Moroccan’ Drissi is raring to go as the Trans Am roadshow swings by the legendary Watkins Glen International on September 6-8 for Round 8 of the 2019 Trans Am presented by Pirelli Championship. The 2009 Trans Am Champion, Drissi also scored a notable win in the corresponding race last year when leading home Burtin Racing at the front for a historic 1-2 finish. The Angeleno pilot’s eyes are once again on the podium at the historic New York former Formula One Grand Prix circuit with this year’s showdown just around the corner.

The last few weeks have not been easy for someone as instinctively competitive as Tomy, who was last seen in action at Lime Rock Park. When his season was interrupted by injury, Tomy was sitting in the fourth position in the Championship, just ten points off then Championship leader Chris Dyson. Forced to miss the races at Indianapolis, Mid-Ohio and Road America, Tomy rejoins the field having started no further back than the second row in the four races he contested, with two podium finishes and a fastest race lap to his name.

Speaking ahead of getting behind the wheel of the No. 8 Lucas Oil Slick Mist Chevrolet Camaro, Tomy was understandably thrilled to be back when he said, “I am so excited to be back – it was a long break and then sitting a few events out. Watkins Glen is a track that brings out the best fans and there is going to be a ton of people there this weekend.”

New for the outing at the Glen is sponsor Lucas Oil. A great American success story of recent years, Lucas Oil are one of the rising forces of American motorsports involvement and Tomy is understandably delighted to have them on board. Drissi stated, “I can’t wait to see everyone and bring out the Lucas Oil Slick Mist Camaro. I am cleared by the Doctor and feeling great. I am coming in with the team really warmed up and I am going to do my best to get up to speed. The Burtin Racing guys should have everything ready to go and I will have all the advantages that a driver can have from a team like Burtin. Looking to defend our win here from last year.”

12 cars are entered in the TA Class at Watkins Glen. The action on the track gets underway for the 850BHP Trans Am drivers at 11:40 a.m. on Thursday with testing, with a further session at 5:15 p.m. the same day. There is just one practice session scheduled for Friday, with the crucial official Qualifying on Saturday at 5:50 p.m. The Trans Am race over 30 laps of the circuit gets underway at 11:20 a.m. on Sunday, September 8.

Los Angeles, CA – July 31, 2019 – It can happen to any professional athlete at any time, but on the eve of one of the biggest weekends of the year, it’s particularly hard to take. After the two month midseason break, and still very much in the hunt for the 2019 Trans Am presented by Pirelli TA class Championship, 2009 Champion Tomy ‘The Rockin’ Moroccan’ Drissi has been forced to pull out of the upcoming Indianapolis showdown with a serious calf injury. Due to the severity of the injury doctors have not cleared him for the intensity of competition.

Tomy was understandably extremely disappointed to be missing this year’s showdown at the Brickyard, but like the true competitor he is, he vowed to be back at the first opportunity.

“I am devastated,” stated Tomy Drissi. “We were in the hunt for the championship and the season was just heating up. This has happened before in basketball and I feel those memories coming back. This happens to professional athletes all the time – it is the worst feeling to think I’m letting the team down.”

Reflecting on breaking the news to team principal Claudio Burtin he added, “Picking up the phone to call Claudio was really hard. The only thing that made me feel a little better was the support that I got from the team. We will be ready and focused on Watkins Glen when I hope to return. I am very proud to be part of Burtin Racing and the Lucas Oil family and am still excited to debut the Slick Mist car at a later date.”

Drissi won the 2018 Trans Am race at Watkins Glen, leading home teammate Lawrence Loshak for a memorable and historic 1-2 for Burtin Racing, so he will naturally be aiming to repeat that victory this year. In the meantime, we all wish him a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing one of the real stars of Trans Am on the track again very soon.
