Solid Pace and Race Strategy Clinch LMPC Victory for Tomy Drissi and Bruno Junqueira

July 24, 2012

Executing their race strategy to the letter, Tomy Drissi and Bruno Junqueira drove the No. 9 RSR “The Watch” LMPC Oreca prototype to the top step of the podium at Canadian Tire Motorsport Part in Sunday’s American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron, Mobil 1 Grand Prix of Mosport.

Drissi started the car from the third place on the grid. Short of a restart penalty, Tomy turned in a perfect stint, setting up Bruno for the long stretch to the finish.

“We had a great car,” said Tomy. “The RSR crew continue to put a good car under us for every race. I was really pleased with my stint. I got caught looking to far upstream on the restart and made an early pass. Fortunately, it wasn’t a costly mistake and I was able to make the time up.”

“When Bruno got in the car,” Tomy continued, “he came through like a champ. The No. 8 car had laid out a good strategy, but Bruno was able to make up time and reel them in. He’s so good… so reliable. I couldn’t ask for a better teammate.”

This was Bruno’s first win in the ALMS. It was also the first American Le Mans Series win for RSR. In 2011 Tomy was a two-time American Le Mans Series winner in LMPC.

Moving on to round 6 in the ALMS Championship, Tomy hopes to repeat his 2011 victory against his former team mate, Kyle Marcelli as the team heads to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, on Saturday, August 4.

The American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón is the world`s leading sports car championship and is recognized as the Global Leader in Green Racing. In the tradition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, multiple classes of cars – purpose-built prototypes and production-based Grand Touring automobiles – race on the track at the same time to create compelling race action and constant passing. All cars in the Series compete using one of five approved alternative fuels or energy sources: clean sulfur-free diesel, cellulosic E85 or E10, Isobutanol and electric hybrid technologies. The Series has more automobile marques involved than any other major race series in the world as manufacturers develop relevant technologies on track that transfer directly to the customer showroom. The ALMS competes at North America`s premier road racing tracks and selected temporary street circuits in major urban markets.
