Tomy Drissi Battles For A Top-10 Finish In Moneterey Pirelli World Challenge

May 15, 2012

When the dust settled on the 11-turn, 2.358-mile Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca race course and the Monterey Grand Prix Pirelli World Challenge, Tomy Drissi, driving the #47 TruSpeed Ice Age / Continental Drift Porsche, was locked in a four-way nose-to-tail battle.

“That was amazing,” said Drissi following the race. “It was obvious early on that the Volvo’s had the speed on the field. Only Pilgrim’s Cadillac appeared to have a chance catching them. But with the last couple of cautions, for the cars running 5-10 it was serious door-to-door racing. It was exhausting… but just a lot of fun.”

“Johnny O’Connell and I had a similar run to what we had at Sears Point last year,” noted the Trans Am Champion. “There is nothing better than running hard with a driver as accomplished as Johnny. He’ll run you hard and he’ll run you as clean as you run him. You can’t ask for more than that. I thought I had a few spots were I could possibly have a run on him, but those Cadillacs can really turn up the horsepower on that front stretch. Plus I had Justin Marx (Porsche) filling up my rearview mirror. What a great race!”

“Once again, the TruSpeed guys delivered a great car,” added Tomy. “When you’re going that hard, it’s nice to have that kind of confidence in your team and your car. These guys are fantastic.”

The Pirelli World Challenge Monterey Grand Prix will be broadcast Sunday, May 27 at 11 p.m. (EDT) on NBC Sports Network.

The series next travels to Detroit for the Cadillac V-Series Challenge at Belle Isle, part of the IZOD IndyCar weekend, June 1-3.
