Tomy Drissi Heads to Circuit of the Americas and the Penultimate Round of the 2017 TransAm Season

November 2, 2017

Driving the No. 8 Murder on the Orient Express Corvette, for Tony Ave Racing, Tomy Drissi is geared up for the final two races of the TransAm season. Tomy will be on track November 3 – 5 at Circuit of the Americas and then on today Daytona for the season finale November 11.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back in the Corvette and doing some TransAm racing,” said Tomy. “Circuit of the Americas is such a great race track. I’m anticipating some really close racing. It’s both a technical track and a fast track… if you get it right, you reap the rewards. Get in wrong and you’ll be playing catch-up all afternoon.”

Tomy knows about getting it right. Just off a high profile win at Road Atlanta and the IMSA 10 hour finale, Petit Le Mans, Tomy and his teammates brought home a victory in the Prototype Challenge class.

“We had a great week at Petit Le Mans,” noted Tomy. “We had a great group of guys driving the car and fantastic support from our crew at BAR1 Motorsports. It’s such a tough race… to run 10 hours and keep it all together is no easy task. And that last hour… man, when you’re out front, that last hour feels like a lifetime. You just want to see that checkered flag come out.”

“Obviously, there’s a big difference between our TransAm Corvette and a finicky Prototype,” added Tomy. “But the feeling you get with a win never changes. It’s something you take with you into the next race. It adds a sense of calm to your approach and the confidence you need to win. You know you can win… you know how to settle down and do what you need to do. So, I’m excited about the next to weekends.”

The Circuit of the Americas’ weekend will feature two 102.81-mile, 30-lap races around the 3.427-mile course, the TA, TA3 and TA4 Trans American, and the TA2 exclusive Trans American Muscle Car Challenge. Fans will get to witness the first coming together of both Trans Am’s primary and West Coast championships since the latter’s inception earlier this year. Drissi is the only TA competitor to have competed in both Championships. He is currently 6th in the primary TransAm Series and 2nd in the West Coast Championships.

For competitors in the Trans Am Championship presented by Pirelli, the back-to-back races mark the close out for the season, with COTA representing the last chance to grab vital points before heading back east to Daytona International Speedway, November 11.

For drivers in the Trans Am West Coast Championship presented by Pirelli, COTA stands as the season finale with three class champions to be crowned—the culmination of Trans Am’s first year back on the West Coast since 2005.

Fans of music and motorsport alike can join Trans Am for a special performance by Austin’s own Eric Tessmer Friday, November 3, at 7 PM CT in Paddock A. The concert is free to all credentialed and ticketed attendees and presented by AquaStar, Fast Five Racing and Lux Performance.

About TransAm
The Trans Am Series is America’s Road Racing Series and dates back to 1966. Throughout the years, some of the greatest names in motorsports have participated in the Trans Am Series. While Trans Am will always be dedicated to honoring its history and legacy, it is far from simply living in the past. Since the addition of the Trans Am Race Company, LLC in late 2011, Trans Am has experienced unprecedented growth as a new class based model has been implemented. Now, three distinct classes take center stage; TA, TA2 and TA3, Trans Am is positioned to power into the future, not live in the past.

The iconic Trans Am Series – America’s Road Racing Series – is operated by the Trans Am Race Company, LLC. Through a five-year agreement, the Trans Am Race Company manages the marketing rights to the series and is responsible for Trans Am Series public relations and promotions.
