Tomy Drissi Heads Up the Coast With EPIC Taking on Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

May 6, 2013

Fresh off a 4th place finish at Long Beach, Tomy Drissi will head to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the American Le Mans Monterey, 3rd round of the 2013 American Le Mans Series present by Tequila Patrón championship. The four-hour endurance race takes the green flag at 3:30PM PST, Saturday May 11.

BAR1 Motorsports will field Tomy and Rusty’s No. 7 EPIC prototype challenge car along with the No. 8 Evident Capital car, driven by Kyle Marcelli and Chris Cumming. The team currently sits third in the Team Championship points.

Drissi is very optimistic heading into the weekend.

“This is our kind of track. It’s a four hour race on a natural terrain race course. It’s what endurance racing is all about.

“I think Rusty [Mitchell] and I will have the opportunity to show what we can do here. BAR1 Motorsports is really putting a good car under us, so we’ll be going for it.

“We’re excited to come back with EPIC (the movie) on the car for Monterey. We had great response to the car at Long Beach. It’s great to see the kids get excited when they see the car and posing for pictures with it.”

Known for it’s elevation changes, the 2.238 mile Mazda Raceway is a fan and driver favorite alike. The circuit offers a challenging variety of corners, none more challenging than the historic corkscrew.

The American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón is the world`s leading sports car championship and is recognized as the Global Leader in Green Racing. In the tradition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, multiple classes of cars – purpose-built prototypes and production-based Grand Touring automobiles – race on the track at the same time to create compelling race action and constant passing. All cars in the Series compete using one of five approved alternative fuels or energy sources: clean sulfur-free diesel, cellulosic E85 or E10, Isobutanol and electric hybrid technologies. The Series has more automobile marques involved than any other major race series in the world as manufacturers develop relevant technologies on track that transfer directly to the customer showroom. The ALMS competes at North America`s premier road racing tracks and selected temporary street circuits in major urban markets.
