Tomy Drissi Ready For Pirelli World Challenge Round 11 And A Weekend Double Header At Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

September 16, 2011

It’s a full slate for Tomy Drissi as he heads to the Monterey Peninsula and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for this weekend’s Round 11 of the Pirelli World Challenge and the ModSpace American Le Mans Monterey Presented by Tequila Patron.

Just off a win at the American Le Mans Series inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix in the LMPC class, Tomy Drissi returns to Pirelli World Challenge action driving the No. 47 The Sitter / Muscle Milk / TruSpeed Porsche GT3. Since getting on board with TruSpeed, Drissi has quickly surpassed his results from the earlier part of the 2011 season. With two races left out of 12 on the season, Tomy’s TruSpeed team leads the Team Championship and is also helping Porsche close on the Manufacturer’s Championship.

“I couldn’t be happier running with the TruSpeed guys,” noted Tomy. “The car has been fantastic. And whatever I ask for in the car, the team gets it done. Sharing setups and feedback with Patrick [Long] and Rob [Morgan] has been a huge advantage for me. The Porsche was a big change from my Trans-Am driving style and these guys have helped fast-track the learning curve.”

The historic 11-Turn, 2.238 mile Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca holds the distinction of being one of the oldest sports car tracks in North America and it’s a favorite among fans and drivers alike. Known by it’s signature Corkscrew Turn, Mazda Raceway is a near perfect combination of elevation changes and high speed turns.

“Running in two different Series, I’ve got my hands full this weekend,” said Tomy, “but I like it that way. I have a hard time sitting still unless I’ve got a steering wheel in my hands. And I love this track. It’s road racing the way it’s supposed to be”

“Of course, World Challenge races are 50 minute sprints,” added Tomy. “There’s absolutely no time to catch your breath… you’re always busy in the car. But with the elevation changes and the high-speed corners… then dropping the equivalent of five and a half stories through the downhill CorkscrewTurn… it’s a blast.

Tomy will also compete in ModSpace American Le Mans Monterey Presented by Tequila Patron, driving the No. 37 Intersport Racing / The Sitter / Muscle Milk LMPC car.

The Pirelli World Challenge Series races this Sunday, September 18, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Live timing and scoring can be accessed at http://www.world-challenge.com/event/index.php?ID=127. Television coverage will be broadcast delayed on October 29, at 4pm ET on Versus.
