- 2009 Trans Am Series champion Tomy Drissi finished third in Sunday’s Trans Am race from Sonoma Raceway
- The podium was Drissi’s second straight at Sonoma, where he also finished second in 2022
- Drissi now ranks fourth in the TA championship heading into this weekend’s race at Laguna Seca, where he carries a three-race podium streak including a win in 2021
Drissi Motorsports team principal and 2009 series champion Tomy Drissi scored his first podium finish of the 2025 Trans Am presented by Pirelli season on Sunday at Sonoma Raceway. In the series’ first race in California since 2022, Drissi wheeled the #8 Trench Shoring Company/Motul Chevrolet Camaro to a third place finish in the first of back-to-back races in his home state.
After Drissi posted a top five lap time in practice, qualifying was raised out, leaving those results to set the race grid. As the race progressed, he got to work on fourth place Brent Crews, moving into the spot just after the halfway mark of the race. From there, a frenetic lap that saw a major crash for two other TA competitors in Turn 10 would allow the consistent Drissi to lock into third, and he would hold onto the final podium spot for the rest of the race.

“It feels really good to be back on the podium!” said Drissi. “These first couple races, we were right there for a couple podiums and had some issues. This time, other drivers had the bad luck, and we were able to take advantage. It was great to get back to Sonoma and see all the fans, and to finish it all off with a great result makes it even better.
“Thank you to the Trench Shoring Company, Motul, Franklin Road, Ken Thwaits, Trans Am, and all the fans. It’s great that we get to build on this momentum right away in Laguna Seca with another race. I’m ready to go for another podium!”

The finish was Drissi’s first podium of the season and his second straight at Sonoma, where he finished second in 2022. It allowed him to gain a spot in the TA championship standings, where he now sits fourth. Top five finishes in two of the first three races of the season have him within 10 points of third going into this weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, where he took podiums in Trans Am’s three most recent visits in 2019, 2021, and 2022.
Drissi Motorsports’ next race at the Laguna Seca SpeedTour will take place on May 2-4. On Saturday, TA practice will take place at 9:30AM and qualifying will run at 3PM. Sunday’s race will go green at 1:20PM and will feature either 40 laps or 75 minutes of action. Tickets remain available here; as always, live streaming will be available on both Speed Sport 1 and the Trans Am YouTube channel.
