2009 Trans Am national champion Tomy Drissi and 2012 national champion Simon Gregg kicked off the 2026 Trans Am by Pirelli campaign on Sunday with a visit to Sebring International Raceway. The drivers of the #8 and #59 Trench Shoring Company/Motul Chevrolet Camaros joined the field for the opening round of Trans Am’s historic 60th anniversary campaign, where they comprised the only team in the TA class to field two past series champions.
After running top three lap times in both test sessions to start the weekend, Drissi posted the fourth fastest time in practice, which would double as his starting spot after qualifying was cancelled. Gregg, meanwhile, would line up ninth overall and seventh in class in his first visit to Sebring as a Trans Am driver since 2021.

On the start, Gregg unfortunately got caught up in first corner contact, which would end with him pulling off track with suspension damage before finishing a lap and leading to the race’s first yellow. Drissi, meanwhile, would briefly take third off the start before settling back into the top five for much of the race. However, while running some of his fastest laps of the race and closing in on Adam Andretti for position with eight laps to go, Drissi suffered a clutch issue that would force him to retire early.
“The results didn’t show just how competitive we were this weekend,” said Drissi. “It’s disappointing that we couldn’t get back on the podium at Sebring after the pace we had in testing, but sometimes it happens. We’re still thrilled to be part of such a historic season for Trans Am and we look forward to getting back on track at Road Atlanta.”

“It was great to be back on track with the Trans Am field at Sebring,” added Gregg, a Florida native. “I only wish that our race could have lasted a little longer. It’s great that the layoff between Sebring and Road Atlanta won’t be too long, because I’m more than ready to get back on track.”
Following Sebring, Drissi Motorsports will return to action on March 12-15 at Road Atlanta. Drissi has had plenty of success at Road Atlanta, including four podium finishes in a five-year span from 2019 to 2023. Gregg is also no stranger to the podium at Road Atlanta, most recently having taken third place in 2018. Tickets are available now, with the field set to take the green flag for 40 laps or 75 minutes of racing on Sunday, March 15 at 12:10PM ET.
