Tomy Drissi will celebrate a milestone in his career this weekend, when he makes his 100th TransAm start at Sebring International Raceway.
Running is first TransAm race at Long Beach in 1999, driving a Ford Mustang Cobra, Tomy was the Top Rookie of the race. Exactly one year later, Tomy tore up the streets of Long Beach taking his first TransAm win, again in a Ford Mustang. Tomy has since gone on to take three wins, 28 top-5s and 59 top-10s… an amazing tribute to Tomy’s consistency. In 2009, Tomy was crowned TransAm Champion.
“This is amazing,” said Tomy. “I had no idea… especially considering, I’m just getting started. I knew there was something special going on this year… this whole idea of coming back to TransAm… kicking off the season here at Sebring, it really feels good.”
“For me, TransAm is where it all started,” Tomy continued. “Racing at Long Beach had always been a dream. My first year I took the top rookie award at Long Beach and came back to win the second year… man that was an amazing time. And we’ve made so many friends, met so many fans…. like I said, I don’t want to sound like a retirement speech… I’m truly just getting started. This is still as much fun as that first race.”
“I have to say, seeing TransAm enjoy the resurgence over these last few years is fantastic,” Tomy added. “It’s nice to be part of the history, but it means nothing if the Series is something in the past. TransAm is just as exciting today as when I first watched as fan. I’m honored to be part of it. There are a lot of people I need to thank… I’m going to need some time to list them all out. Right now, I’ve got a race to win! This one’s for Pappa!”
Tomy will make his 100th TransAm start at Sebring, March 2nd – 5th. He will be driving the No. 8 Corvette featuring Ghost in the Shell, opening March 31. Ghost in the Shell is an upcoming American science fiction action film directed by Rupert Sanders and written by Jamie Moss and Ehren Kruger, based on the Japanese manga of the same name by Masamune Shirow. Sanders dedicated the film to Buried director Rodrigo Cortés. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Michael Pitt, Pilou Asbæk, Chin Han and Juliette Binoche. It will be released on March 31, 2017, in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D.

About TransAm
The Trans Am Series is America’s Road Racing Series and dates back to 1966. Throughout the years, some of the greatest names in motorsports have participated in the Trans Am Series. Names like Tommy Kendall, Mark Donohue, Peter Gregg, Bob Tullius and Wally Dallenbach, Jr. have all won multiple championships under the Trans Am name.
While Trans Am will always be dedicated to honoring its history and legacy, it is far from simply living in the past. Since the addition of the Trans Am Race Company, LLC in late 2011, Trans Am has experienced unprecedented growth as a new class based model has been implemented. Now, three distinct classes take center stage; TA, TA2 and TA3, Trans Am is positioned to power into the future, not live in the past.
The iconic Trans Am Series – America’s Road Racing Series – is operated by the Trans Am Race Company, LLC. Through a five-year agreement, the Trans Am Race Company manages the marketing rights to the series and is responsible for Trans Am Series public relations and promotions. SCCA Pro Racing sanctions Trans Am events and provides event operations services to the series.
