Drissi, Junquiera and Gonzalez Finish Second In LMPC, Fourth Overall At Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

In the final west coast visit of the American Le Mans Series’ for 2012, RSR drivers Tomy Drissi, Bruno Junquiera and Roberto Gonzalez prevailed in the six hour battle to put the #9 Prometheus LMPC on the second step of the podium. In addition, the team took fourth overall on the winding curves and elevations of the 2.238-mile Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

“The team did a great job this weekend,” noted Tomy. “They played the right strategy and overcame some early issues. The name of the game in a six hour endurance is strategy… RSR played it to the letter.”

“I think Bruno had a great shot at the win in the late going,” added the Trans Am Champion. “He and Colin Braun (CORE autosport) split a GTC car on the last lap and unfortunately it worked out a little better for Braun. It was an incredible drive any way you look at it.”

The focus of sports car racing now turns to the 24 Hours of Le Mans where select ALMS teams compete on June 16-17 at the famed 8.3-mile French circuit in the world’s greatest auto race.

The American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón is the world`s leading sports car championship and is recognized as the Global Leader in Green Racing. In the tradition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, multiple classes of cars – purpose-built prototypes and production-based Grand Touring automobiles – race on the track at the same time to create compelling race action and constant passing. All cars in the Series compete using one of five approved alternative fuels or energy sources: clean sulfur-free diesel, cellulosic E85 or E10, Isobutanol and electric hybrid technologies. The Series has more automobile marques involved than any other major race series in the world as manufacturers develop relevant technologies on track that transfer directly to the customer showroom. The ALMS competes at North America`s premier road racing tracks and selected temporary street circuits in major urban markets.
