Fighting against one of the most competitive fields of the 2026 Trans Am season, 2009 series champion Tomy Drissi hung onto third place in the TA championship standings after Round 11 of the season from VIRginia International Raceway. Drissi and the #8 Trench Shoring Company/Petersen Automotive Museum/Motul Chevrolet Camaro placed seventh in the 31-lap race after a heroic charge through the field in the late stages.
Although more than 20 cars showed up to VIR for the top-class race, the TA field was tightly matched all weekend long. Unlike many other events this season, every TA driver outpaced every other class on track in both practice and qualifying. Despite the tough competition, Drissi took fourth place on the grid, beating Chris Dyson for the spot by just one one-hundredth of a second in qualifying.
Drissi and Dyson had a closely fought battle in the early stages of the race, fighting within a second of one another for most of the action as two cautions kept the rest of the field tight. Unfortunately, contact from behind in Oak Tree just past the halfway point of the race sent Drissi off course and dropped him out of the top 15 in the overall order.
At that point, Drissi laid the hammer down, skillfully carving his way through the entire set of GT-class cars that had passed him over the final 14 laps of the race. Despite the spin and heavy traffic to contend with, he managed to get back to seventh overall when the checkered flag fell, staying on the lead lap.

“That was a crazy drive through the second half of the race to get through all the GT cars,” said Drissi. “Thank you to the entire Drissi Motorsports team for giving me a car that could handle that type of challenge on Sunday. We’re still third in the championship with one race to go, and we’re going to give it everything we have to finish the season strong.”
