- Tomy Drissi finished third overall in Trans Am’s return to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
- The finish marked Drissi’s third podium of 2025, joining podiums at Sonoma and Lime Rock Park
- Drissi now holds third place in the TA championship by 25 points with just three races remaining
2009 Trans Am champion Tomy Drissi returned to the TA podium in Saturday’s race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, scoring third place in the series’ only trip north of the border this season. Drissi and the #8 Trench Shoring Company/Motul/Franklin Road Apparel Chevrolet Camaro finished third in the 41-lap feature, cutting through not only the usual GT class traffic, but also the TA2 class in their only combined race of the season.
Drissi settled into fourth off the green flag, but he took over third early on as high early attrition caused both the TA and TA2 class leaders to pit. He’d stay in that spot through most of the race before getting another shot at the leaders thanks to a late restart. A slow restart for the top two cars allowed Drissi and Chris Dyson to get past them both; unfortunately, a penalty was called that forced them to take drive-through penalties. When scoring was settled after the race, Drissi returned to the third position.
“These two were the class of the field,” Drissi said of Paul Menard and Adam Andretti, just moments after taking a famous Drissi selfie with them on the podium. “I could hang with them for the first three laps, (but) my hat’s off to these guys, they’ve been on fire. We’re looking for the setup on our car still, but we keep pushing. Drissi Motorsports and all the specialists that come over, thank you so much, you built me a car that lasted.
“On the restart, from my point of view, the flagger went green, but Menard wasn’t in the box, so me and Dyson just took off. I was like Forrest Gump running, but I couldn’t hold them off. Thank you everybody. Mosport, Trans Am, it’s so good coming here, the Canadian fans are just the best!”
Drissi’s third podium of the season enabled him to strengthen his grip on third in the TA standings, where he now leads Amy Ruman by 25 points and Dyson by 29. Just three races remain on the calendar, but last year, Drissi scored second place finishes at two of them—VIRginia International Raceway and Circuit of the Americas. The third, coming to Barber Motorsports Park, is a new event with an even playing field for all drivers.
Drissi Motorsports returns to action in Virginia on September 18-21, with Keith Grant set to return to the team’s #7 Chevrolet Camaro to compete in a second car alongside Drissi. Click here to buy tickets to watch Tomy and Keith race!
