“I can’t thank Tony and his guys enough for giving me a great car. It’s always a ton of fun driving a Trans Am car and it was great seeing everyone. I’m really pleased to see the Series doing so well. I have a lot of history here.”
On the NASCAR side of things, Tomy was back with the NEMCO-JRR team driving the No 70 Toyota. The team put in a solid performance all week long with Tomy completing the race in 19th position. The finish was a personal NASCAR best for Tomy.
“The NEMCO-JRR guys did a great job with the car. I have to hand it to these guys… they never give up. They gave me a really good car for Mid-Ohio.
“I was really able to settle in and get comfortable in the car this week. I think that’s the first time I’ve felt at home in a stock car. They’re a completely different beast.
“Running the whole race and finishing was a real eye-opener too. Man, I was hungry when I climbed out at the end. But it was great… I got to mix it up a bit and show what I can do on a road course. I had a big off trying to avoid slower traffic. That put some grass in the grill forcing me to come into the pits. We stayed on the lead lap though and was able to get right back in the fight. These are some of the best drivers in the world and it was an honor being out there running in the front half of the pack.”
Tomy will resume his regular American Le Mans Series drive with BAR1 Motorsports at Baltimore for the Grand Prix of Baltimore presented by Tequila Patron, Saturday August 31. Tomy will join co-driver Rusty Mitchell in the No. 7 Prototype Challenge car.
