Tomy Drissi Picks Up a 5th Place Trans Am Finish at Mid-Ohio

August 14, 2017

Driving the No. 8 Tony Ave Corvette, Tomy Drissi finished fifth in the FirstEnergy Trans Am 100 at Mid-Ohio. The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli appeared with the NASCAR Xfinity Series as part of the Mid-Ohio Challenge weekend.

With an entry list featuring 51 cars, weekend featured two 101.96-mile competitions completing 45 laps around the 13-turn, 2.258-mile course: The First Energy Muscle Car Challenge with the modern day pony cars of the TA2 class and the FirstEnergy Trans Am 100 showcasing the TA, TA3 and TA4 classes.

“It was great to be back at Mid-Ohio,” said Tomy, “and especially great to be back running with my friends in Trans Am. We saw some really close racing.. and it was fun being out their.”

Due to dangerous conditions, Friday’s qualifying was cancelled and the grid was set by points.

“The No. 8 Ave Racing Corvette was handling real good,” noted Tomy. “We need to find a little more top end, but the car was very competitive. Amy [Ruman] and I had a good run together, and David Pintaric was mixing it up with us too. It was good close racing. About two thirds through the race, Amy and I were nose-to-tail and going through some traffic. I had set up to take advantage of using one of the slower cars (kind of a pick n’ roll in the NBA), but the other car got caught up with Amy and we were both left scrambling to get back on track. I honestly felt we had a podium car. But I’m happy we got it back to 5th.”

Next up, the Series heads to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin when the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli returns to action at Road America for Round 8 of the Trans Am Championship on August 26th.

The Mid-Ohio event will be broadcast, tape delayed, on CBS Sports Network.
